A distant landscape.
A closer reading.

The Moon's far side is crowded with overlapping craters. Through laser measurements made from orbit, its rugged relief becomes a landscape we can study in detail.

Here, blue gives depth to lower terrain, including the South Pole-Aitken basin, while yellow reveals higher farside ground. Fine contours trace another layer of structure across the surface.

The colours are chosen; the landforms are measured. Farside Elevation brings those two decisions together in a work that can be read as both a landscape and a field of colour.

What arrives in the package?

Your chosen print, supplied unframed with the white border and typography shown in the full-sheet view. It is accompanied by a separate A5 story card and a certificate identifying the individual print.

The print is protected for rolled shipment. Frames shown in photographs are display examples and are not included.

What is the edition?

The print is hand-signed and numbered by Sylvester Kaczmarek. Refer to the selected Saatchi Art listing for its edition details. The certificate identifies the size and print number.

What do the colours represent?

The artwork uses NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter data from the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA). Blue indicates lower elevation and yellow higher terrain; these are mapped colours rather than the Moon's natural appearance.

The view covers 90°E to 270°E and all latitudes in a simple cylindrical projection. Its characteristic stretching near the poles is a property of that projection. Contrast is adjusted to make relief legible; the colour-bar endpoints are display limits, not the lowest and highest points on the entire Moon.

Framing and care

The stated size is the full paper sheet, including its white border. An A1 print fits a frame made for a 594 × 841 mm sheet; A2 fits 420 × 594 mm. Allow a framer to advise on mounting and spacing from glazing.

Handle the edges with clean, dry hands. Avoid moisture, direct sunlight and tape on the printed surface.
